Patterns made easy...Modelling on a stand

Use of Calico on the mannequin, is one of the ways to make a pattern and design.

First step is to mark centre fold on the warp of the calico and pin it onto the stand. Afterwards desired pattern piece is drawn on, leaving seam allowance to attach the next piece.

Marking of grain line pinned on to the stand 90 degrees/ perpendicular  to the floor

What the design will look like...with seams over-pinned

More Inspiration..

Gareth Pugh's work, a mix of pleating detail and origami, inspired me to develop the design created from the paper modelling exercise.

Pleating/Origami Artists

Andre Lima's origami inspired pieces attracted me mainly because of their great shapes which seem to be more on the triangular side.

Get Folding/Origami/Pleating

One of the trickiest things I've ever tried when it comes to paper. I was glad to know how beautiful pleats of all shapes, patterns and sizes are made, thanks to Ciment Pleating.

                                                        Examples of different pleats

My very own attempts at the complex paper folding exercise

Exactly two of the same patterns are made in-between which fabric is placed to form the pleats.

Failed samples where not enough heat was applied :/
